Physiotherapy-led recovery after abdominal and pelvic surgery.

Rebuild with confidence.

We're developing Rebuild Foundations, an online programme to help you understand recovery after abdominal or pelvic surgery and work towards everyday movement with confidence.

The programme is in development. Registering interest is not enrolment.

Created by Ellie Yuen, chartered physiotherapist.

After surgery

What comes after surgery?

You may have been told to rest, walk and avoid heavy lifting.

But what happens after that?

Rebuild Foundations is being developed to offer clear education about recovery, movement and rebuilding strength alongside your clinical care.

  • How much should I be doing?
  • How do I rebuild my abdominal strength?
  • What about my pelvic floor?
  • How do I know if I'm doing too much, or not enough?

Who we're developing this for

People of all genders recovering after abdominal or pelvic surgery.

  • Hysterectomy
  • Prolapse repair
  • Endometriosis surgery
  • Gynaecological surgery
  • Caesarean birth
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Colorectal surgery
  • Prostate surgery
  • Other appropriate abdominal or pelvic procedures

Suitability depends on your operation, recovery and clinical advice. These examples do not confirm that every module or exercise will be appropriate for you. Your surgical team's advice and restrictions always take priority.

Meet Ellie Yuen

Chartered physiotherapist.
A practical, human approach.

Ellie Yuen

Pelvic Rebuild was created by Ellie Yuen, a Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in pelvic health and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Ellie's approach combines pelvic health with whole-body rehabilitation.

Rather than looking at the pelvic floor in isolation, rehabilitation considers movement, abdominal function, strength, symptoms, confidence and the physical demands of everyday life.

Learn about healing, pacing and what influences your recovery.

  2. Recover

  3. Rebuild

Understand the principles of gradually rebuilding abdominal and whole-body strength.

  4. Return

Learn about working towards exercise and the activities that matter to you, without a fixed deadline.

Planned learning themes

  • Early recovery
  • Pelvic floor
  • Abdominal recovery
  • Breathing & pressure
  • Everyday movement
  • Strength
  • Exercise
  • Confidence

Recovery timeline

An example recovery timeline.

A general guide for conversations with your care team. Every operation and every body is different. These stages are discussion prompts, not exercises to start at a set week. Follow your team's advice before scar work, strengthening, lifting or sport.

Showing the weeks 2 to 6 interval from the draft guide. This is not an assessment of your recovery or permission to progress.

Weeks 0 to 2

Rest and protect

Keep your discharge instructions close. Follow your team's advice about rest, everyday movement and wound care.

Weeks 2 to 6 · Selected range

Gentle reconnection

Discuss manageable walking, breathing and pelvic floor awareness with your team. Follow the restrictions for your operation.

Weeks 6 to 12

Rebuild with guidance

Use your clinical review to discuss symptoms, scar care and whether any strengthening is appropriate for you.

Week 12 onwards

Return with a plan

Plan work, lifting, exercise and sport with individual guidance. A date alone does not establish readiness.

Pelvic floor repairs are not all the same. Follow the guidance for your exact operation, including any combined procedures.

A question to ask What pelvic floor and bowel-care advice applies to my particular repair?

The week ranges are illustrative ranges from Pelvic Rebuild's draft guide, not an individual treatment timetable. Read RCOG pelvic floor repair guidance. Listing a surgery here does not confirm programme suitability.

Post Surgery Rebuild Foundations

Practical advice after surgery.

Straight answers about pelvic floor exercises and constipation, with links to NHS and RCOG guidance. Follow the advice for your operation and your discharge plan.

Pelvic floor

Understanding pelvic floor recovery

Why the exact operation and your individual advice matter more than a generic exercise plan.

Everyday recovery

Bowel comfort after surgery

Questions about bowel changes, medicines and procedure-specific dietary advice.

These educational guides are part of the Foundations preview, not individual treatment plans. Advice after hysterectomy, prolapse repair and prostate surgery is not interchangeable. Your surgical team's instructions take priority.

Your recovery starting point

Make sense of your next step.

Three simple questions to help you prepare for a conversation with your clinical team. This is not a medical assessment or a programme suitability check.

Question 1 of 3No diagnosis. No score.

Which surgery are you recovering from?

Your answers stay in this page's memory. They are not submitted or saved.

Worried about new or worsening symptoms? Contact your clinical team rather than using this reflection. Read when to seek medical help.

Your questions, answered.

A few things to know before you register interest.

Is Rebuild Foundations available yet?

Not yet. The online programme and its modules are being developed. You can register interest now, but this page does not take payment or enrol you. A launch date has not been confirmed.

What happens when I register interest?

You leave your name, email and type of surgery, choose the support you are interested in and agree to Ellie using these details to respond. Registering does not commit you to buying, reserve a place or book an appointment.

Will it be suitable for my surgery?

Suitability will depend on your procedure, recovery and individual clinical advice. The audience examples on this page do not confirm that every module or exercise will be appropriate for you. Your surgical team's advice and restrictions always take priority.

Can I get individual advice instead?

You can use the separate 1:1 consultation booking link below for individual physiotherapy advice. It opens Ellie's Cliniko booking page, not the Foundations interest form. For new or worsening symptoms, contact your surgical or medical team rather than waiting for a programme update.

Interested in Pelvic Rebuild?

Leave your details so Ellie can contact you about your preferred support option. There is no commitment to buy.

The programme is still in development. This is an expression of interest, not a purchase or a recovery assessment.

Prefer individual physiotherapy advice?

Book a 1:1 consultation (opens Cliniko in a new tab)

Opens Ellie's Cliniko booking page in a new tab.

For new or worsening symptoms, contact your surgical or medical team. Do not wait for a programme update. Read when to seek medical help.

Register your interest

Ellie asks for your surgery type to understand your interest. This is health information and is sent with your enquiry. Please do not include medical records or detailed symptoms.

We'll use your details to contact you about your chosen support option. You can ask us to stop by emailing Ellie. Registering does not enrol you or book an appointment.
